A Brief History
Lincoln Avenue Academy was established in 1992 as a voluntary desegregation magnet school serving the needs of Lakeland's diverse population. A strong partnership with the Lakeland community has always influenced the philosophy of Lincoln Academy. As a magnet school, Lincoln Avenue Academy values and is committed to education of learners from diverse backgrounds. Since its onset as a magnet school, Lincoln magnet theme has transitioned from a school of Math and Technology, followed by a STEM school, and in November 2016, Lincoln Academy became Polk County Schools first an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme World School. Ongoing curriculum adjustments are the key for continuing our tradition of excellence.
At Lincoln Avenue Academy, we are an educational community consisting of parents, students, community members, faculty, and staff who work together to provide a nurturing environment where all children are encouraged to think critically and challenge assumptions while they learn and master the Florida Curriculum Standards with the framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Through the IB PYP inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, Lincoln students are challenged to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.
Teachers and Administration dedicated to research-based professional development that encourages self-reflection, dedication to lifelong learning, continuous improvement, and innovation are the key for continuing our tradition of excellence at Lincoln. Every Lincoln Academy student is challenged to think independently, drive his/her own thinking, and reach his or her full potential as intelligent, cultured, and internationally minded citizens of our increasingly globalized and rapidly changing world.
